Message Window Not Loading! Please Help!

Hey Everyone,

I've been loving this throw back to my childhood and I'm severely addicted again, so I'd really appreciate any help!

I can't seem to figure out how to get the message window to load consistently, whether with new games or saved games. The message window has loaded for me a few times, but I can't figure out what I can do to make it load every time. When the message window fails to load, I also can't get the overview map or the unit info box to show, and when I click into a city no information shows there either. Another thing I noticed is a shorter welcome message appears.

I'm totally non-technical so I'm not sure if this helps - but I'm on a mac, and I've tried loading games on Chrome and Firefox and neither work.

The message window, and the overview map and unit info box are hidden on devices with small screen resolutions.
Freeciv-web will try to adapt the user interface if you are using a mobile or tablet device, which often have smaller screens and less processing power.
SO on devices with small screens, you should be able to find the message window on the tab called "Chat" on the main window.

I know that Freeciv-web can be made to work better on devices with small screen resolutions, so I will try to improve this in the next version.

What screen resolution are you using? What kind of Mac are you using? Which web browser are you using?

I've been playing on my 13inch macbook pro, on a chrome browser, with a 1280x800 res.

I wonder why it works sometimes and other times it doesn't...

At 1280x800 screen resolution, you should get the normal size of the user interface, not the mobile-version.
Perhaps this is related to the zoom level on the page, so that the Javascript incorrectly detects the mobile-version.
What is you zoom level?

Could you try reducing the zoom-level on the frontpage of play.freeciv.org to for example 80% or 100%, then try starting the game?
Or experimenting with different zoom levels, full-screen (F11) and see if that works for you?
