MacOS build 3.2.6

Post by janior »

I compiled build 3.2.6 for MacOS GTK4 version. I tested on two macs OS 27, on one without homebrew and lunching correctly. If anyone need and want to test it feel free to download.

Link will work 7 days, if needed I will share again. I can also share sh script which I used to build that version. There is few warnings but... working :)

Gatekeeper may block the unsigned application from opening. To launch it, you can either right-click the app, choose “Open,” and confirm, or remove the quarantine attribute from the app by running: bash xattr -cr /Applications/Freeciv.app The xattr -cr command recursively removes extended attributes, including macOS’s quarantine flag, from the application.

Yes, that's required by GPL.

You likely could get rid of that sdl2/sdl3-compat stuff by using sdl3 audio to begin with, so that there should be no need at all for sdl2. That's done by passing "-Daudio=sdl3" to meson.

I uploaded them to a slightly more persistent storage at https://files.freeciv.org/contrib/macos/freeciv-3.2.6/

I tried this on my Mac and it didn't work, double-clicking the app icon does nothing. I did the gatekeeper thing OK. When I cd to the bin folder inside the Contents and run ./freeciv-gtk4 from there I get error msg -
zsh: bad CPU type in executable: ./freeciv-gtk4
I'm running MacOS 11.7, and what I think you need to support older versions is this -
export MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=11.0
in your script. Not sure if that's needed when the Homebrew packages are built, or if they are already built that way.

I also have been making unofficial MacOS app bundles available on my dropbox -

I'll send you a private message thru this forum, would like to email with you.

Yes, this is a build for apple silicon CPUs. You probably run this on Intel based Macbook.

You can just try build your own version using a script which I provided.

It would be nice to get a confirmation from someone that his works outside "developer's machine" (given failure at Dino's machine). Eventually I'd like to get the build script merged to the source repository - to be part of the official source release, and then make official MacOS builds from future freeciv releases.
