Default World Toroidal?

I have recently re-downloaded Freeciv for my new computer and it appears that the default world is now toroidal! This is completely unrealistic and needs to be changed. (Even though it is easily fixable in the settings menu, the default option should be the normal one, it could be a nasty shock for inexperienced players) Is it some kind of bug?
