Left/Right keys do not work anymore

You can get help here if Freeciv doesn't start on your computer, or if you keep getting fatal errors while playing etc.

Left/Right keys do not work anymore

Post by peterr »

Hello everyone,

I've a strange behaviour regarding FreeCiv in Linux: I cannot move a unit to the left or to the right, while all other directions work well. This is the same when using the Num-pad or the arrow keys. Of course, all the keys work well in other applications. I've already tried to connect an alternate keyboard, but the behaviour is still the same.

I also tried to use xev to look for events received by the FreeCiv window: I see all the events for any keys pressed, but nothing for left/right and 4 and 6. By pressing 4/6 it is the same for the number keys above the letters as well as the Num-Pad. Num-Lock does also not change anything.

I'm in arch Linux and I've updated anything to the newest available versions. Right now for freeciv this is 3.1.3-1. I've also tried to compile it by myself for Qt, SDL and GTK -- again, the same behaviour for all clients.

Does anyone has an idea what I can try next? What information would be helpful for further investigation?

Best regards
Peter

What map topology you are playing with? In the default (non-iso hex) topology there's no neighboring tiles in left/right direction to move to.
