Stable release 3.0.0

Post by cazfi »

The next major version of Freeciv, 3.0.0, has been released.

Major 3.0.x features are civ2civ3 being the default ruleset, addition of the alien ruleset, hex maps as the default topology on new installations, and a whole lot of extra flexibility to create custom rulesets. See NEWS-3.0.0 for details of what's changed since the last stable release line, 2.6.x.

For those who tried the betas and release candidates, there's a short list of changes since RC2 (documentation and translations).

Source code is available here. Compiled Windows packages for 3.0.0 aren't available yet, but should follow shortly; in the meantime, the 3.0.0-RC2 packages are still available and almost as good.

Windows packages are available.

Anyone with 64 bit Windows OS is recommended to use win64 packages. Win32 ones have some known issues.

It's recommended to use URLs of the form http://www.freeciv.org/wiki/Install-MacOSX instead of the wikia page it (currently) redirects to.

Those who have no option but have to use win32 packages may want to keep an eye on 3.0 snapshot builds thread: http://forum.freeciv.org/f/viewtopic.ph ... 2&start=40
Next snapshot is likely to contain fix for them.

I have Linux Mint.
I downloaded a file from the site, but I don't know what to do next with it :(
I didn’t understand much in the instructions, can someone write a step-by-step instruction for installing this version. Thanks in advance)

MacOS 10 versions are now in the dropbox.

The "10.13 - 10.14 freeciv 3.0.0.zip" is gtk3.22 client.
The "10.15 freeciv 3.0.0.zip" has qt as default client, gtk3.22 client can also be chosen by following directions in the readme.txt file.

I think the "MacOS 11 freeciv 3.0.0.zip" works with all versions of MacOS 11. It has qt as default client, gtk3.22 client can also be chosen.

Apple has already moved on to MacOS 12, I'll start exploring that next.

The "MacOS 11 freeciv 3.0.0.zip" in the dropbox has been updated with a bug fix for the qt client. The "Game" menu now shows the "Options >" sub-menu.

Thanks to a friend running MacOS 12, I have verified that the freeciv apps built on MacOS 11 also run OK on 12. I have renamed the zip files in the dropbox.
