texai

What is "texai" (worked on by cazfi), how is it different and how is it used?

Playing Master Report

I played around a little with the current state of the master branch (something like 3.1) and give this experience report, intended for development. I played civ2civ3 ruleset and since I was used this being lame I was pleasantly surprised to find AI activity largely improved and on a lively level. R...

Re: Compile master branch

My intuitive understanding of 'configure' was that all possible (compileable) client version would be marked in the result text, but this isn't so. Only the requested client type is reported with 'yes'/'no' all others with 'no'. I requested 'all' client types and QT wasn't in the results. The proble...

Re: Compile master branch

Great, I can compile now following your advice! - I have a few problems in understanding. After I installed the libs for GTK3, configure does not offer the GTK2 frontend any more. Has this a technical background or is it a design decision? Actually, I'm not a great friend of the GTK3 client because ...

Re: Compile master branch

Thanks, I realised it and run it. But I have a problem with the "sqlite3" library. Ubuntu Linux reports that a newer version is already installed (in fact I installed it). But that isn't what configure expects. Also, "libsqlite3" is an unknown package name for the system. Any help?

Compile master branch

Is the "master" branch in GitHub meant to be configurable and compileable? I can configure and compile release 2.6.0 but when I try configure in the master branch I receive "configure: error: cannot find install-sh, install.sh, or shtool in bootstrap "."/bootstrap". Any...

Re: AI is totally lame

I think this evaluation is justified! I have been playing this game since many years on an "occasional" pattern and I find the games have been more interesting of old. As for 2.6 I have a savegame here which, when I take over the most advanced AI player, shows they built 28 Workers for 10 ...

Re: AI and Rulesets

Thanks! - So can I take it that in the standard edition there is only one AI module that governs all rulesets? Cute! Another thing: are there any noteworthy alternate AI modules created and available? If yes, where are they located? If I wanted to branch off somewhere for developing in the AI module...

AI and Rulesets

What I haven't understood yet is what the relation is between AI modules and rulesets. One should assume that each ruleset would require somewhat different AI decisions. How is this solved in the program and are there distinct AI modules for each ruleset?

Re: Discussing civ2civ3 changes in 2.6

If you ask me, which you don't, I would advocate to abandon square tile maps altogether and restrict the game to hexagonal tiles only. The rationale is that hex-tiles enable a more natural behavior of units and avoid many of the consistency problems like jumping over land etc. Such a step would also...
