I've been experimenting with the auto-worker feature in recent Freeciv versions and noticed that workers sometimes build roads connecting smaller cities before improving high-production tiles around my capital.
Is there a way to change the priority so auto-workers always finish tile improvements (such as mines or irrigation on worked tiles) before starting long-distance road networks? If not, are there any server settings, ruleset options, or AI parameters that can influence this behavior?
I'd be interested to hear how other players manage auto-workers in large single-player games.
