GUI problem on Raspi 400

Hi all,
I searched the web, but couldn't find any pages that fit my problem:
I am running FreeCiv 2.6.0 on my Raspi 400 on Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 (buster).
When I start up the client, everything looks pretty and healthy, but when I hover over the buttons in the main menu the buttons become transparent.
They are click-able though, but any other menu that opens then, won't show any buttons.
Can someone give me a hint in which direction I can look?
I already tried to install some SDL libraries, but that did not seem to have any effect on my problem.
