A few years ago I took to the official channels to ask for a small tileset correction: flag of Yugoslavian nation.
Current flag is a flag of Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918 - 1941) and also Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1992 - 2003) that actually comprised only one third of the previous country.
However, what is widely known as "Yugoslavia" was actually Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (1945-1992) when it held the most territory, the largest population and its significance in international relations was almost infinitely larger compared to the other two.
The difference is that the flag of the latter, SFRY, had a red star on it, while the other two, and the flag in FreeCiv, doesn't.
When I asked for a correction, I used the proper format and uploaded the correct flag together with an explanation to the proper place, but nothing ever happened. Can someone tell me what needs to be done to correct this?

Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
So, any advice on how to get this thing fixed? I'm not asking anybody here to fix it, but for advice which channels to use to have it fixed.

Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
I rather agree. The Federal Republic Yugoslavia only consisted of Serbia and Montanegro. I assume we already have Serbia and Montanegro nations (and it was called Serbia and Montanegro by others, even). However, the longer lasting, larger, Socialist Federal Republic Yugoslavia also included Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Macedonia, and Kosovo. The older, longer-lasting, communist state seems far more useful and appropriate to be represented.
Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
Actually, it was officially called "Yugoslavia" until 2003, and then changed its name to "Serbia and Montenegro" until its dissolution in 2006.GriffonSpade wrote:(and it was called Serbia and Montanegro by others, even)

Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
Trying query freeciv yugoslavia I got this on a civland.org forum, and Davide explained how to create a bug report on Gna!. Adding flag to the query Google suggests https://gna.org/patch/?4577Corbeau wrote:A few years ago I took to the official channels to ask for a small tileset correction: flag of Yugoslavian nation.
Inserting 4577 in a working URL yields your open 2014 patch. The latest SVG on the Wiki was still wrong, but of course commons has a good SVG (PD). Your Gna! patch 4577 SVG is older than the latest and greatest on commons, therefore I simply copy your patch from Gna! to HRM: 697025.
The current time required to fix a flag is at a minimum of three years, don't hold your breath. I've updated the SVG on the Wiki.
Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
Oh, I did the request three years ago so it means it should be done... about now?
Anyway, thanks
Just curious, can you explain these tidbits because I don't understand what you actually meant:
"The latest SVG on the Wiki was still wrong, but of course commons has a good SVG (PD)."

Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
The SVG on the Wiki was still the old SVG (no red star), you can see both versions in the File history.Corbeau wrote:"The latest SVG on the Wiki was still wrong, but of course commons has a good SVG (PD)."
Your version on Gna! was older than the newest version on commons, I used the latter for the Wiki and the HRM copy. Visually very similar or idenical, your PNGs should be still okay (just in case copied to HRM as is, but JTN presumably already has most old attachments, the Web archive also still has the old attachments.)"Your Gna! patch 4577 SVG is older than the latest and greatest on commons"
Background: Many "newer" SVGs on commons are just minor tweaks (invalid to valid, huge to smaller, correct to wrong (sic!), etc.), but sometimes "newer" indicates serious fixes (wrong colors, incorrect CoA), where the PNGs for flags and shields should be recreated from scratch. And depending on the flag new shields can't be done with a script, the existing script simply tries to get the center of the flag for this purpose, that's not always good enough.
Example, the flag on commons was wrong for three minutes on 2 March, 2017. And for Niue + Palau the description was incomplete, I fixed that while at it.
Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
Hm, weird. I'm pretty sure I uploaded the right one.dunnoob wrote:The SVG on the Wiki was still the old SVG (no red star), you can see both versions in the File history.Corbeau wrote:"The latest SVG on the Wiki was still wrong, but of course commons has a good SVG (PD)."

Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
Why dont you create two different ruleset? Kingdom of Yugoslavia and one SFR Yugoslavia. I created a German Empire (1871-1918) ruleset because the flag of the Federal Republic of Germany is so different and the territory is signifcantly different. Like this Im also covering the Weimar Republic and a little bit the Third Reich. Both used either the black-red-gold flag or the black-white-red flag at least for some time in the latter case.
Only problem is that is has been stuck forever and Im to incompetent to push through...

Re: Geopolitical correction to standard tileset(s)
This isn't about rulesets or scenarios. This is about the "official" nations in the "default" Freeciv rulesets.
It's true, there could be both, but the territorial difference was probably less than 5%.
