I've been playing with the supplied Earth-based scenarios, running AI-games to see how they pan out. I've noticed the starting positions are....iffy. For the most part, nations start in their historical positions (except on the medium map). I assume the limitation is either in the nation definition and the specified start positions in the scenario.
Recently, I found the attached Earth map which is more than twice the size of the giant-sized scenario. When I load this save file and increase the AI players to 50, everybody(!) starts accurately: Irish, English, Jamaicans, Ecuador, New Zealand, Greece, Macedon....and on and on....how can this be???? How does Freeciv know where to start everybody? Is the save file programmed with them?
I'm absolutely amazed at this map...now I must find out which nations will start in wrong positions....

500 x 250 Earth - That's one of gm1530's scenarios, also installable with freeciv-modpack, right?
Re: HUGE earth map (500x250)
That happens with random nations or do you have to choose them in the pre-start game?
Bet it takes hours to "Turn Done" after 100 or so turns...

Cazfi: yup, you got it! Although I didn't know it was part of a modpack.
Arbogast: I let that game run until turn 205, it was taking about 7-8 minutes per turn...I'm going to try running 100 players while I sleep tonight.

Re: HUGE earth map (500x250)
Yes -- potential start positions can be specified in the save file, and each position can have some nation restrictions associated with it (either the subset of nations which are allowed, or those that are not). You can set this stuff up in the map editor.Dox4242 wrote:How does Freeciv know where to start everybody? Is the save file programmed with them?

Re: HUGE earth map (500x250)
Some time ago, I updated the starting positions of the Large earth map to include 30 of the core nations.
I'll try to do the same for the small earth map.
