If you allow me this comment: It's not really a scenario, it's just an earth map with start positions. From my point of view a scenario contains cities, units, roads/rails, tech editing, leader editing etc.

I'm not aware of a better name for Freeciv maps, it can be started as scenario, it's stored in the scenarios folder, it would be tagged as scenario in the Modpack-downloader, and technically it is a kind of saved game at turn 1. The tutorial is an extreme case, a saved game at turn 0, not even a map.

Quick sanity check, (200*100) *(30/100) for 30% land (incl. glaciers) would be 6000 land tiles, and for 36 players that's about 166 tiles per player. Too hard for me, I seriously dislike visits of foreign explorers before I have decided where to build my first city. :D

Scenario = "animated" map? Or are we calling the things I often create animated scenarios? By the way, can we fix somewhere in the forum the scenarios collection download thread so that it doesn't vanish in the freeciv forum archives? Just in case someone is new and wants to download them...

On the wiki is a Maps page, it belongs to Category:Scenarios together with four standard maps/scenarios, which somehow got their own page: Europe (classic/giant) , France (classic/large) , Japan (classic/medium) , and North America (classic/medium).

Clearly that could be improved, e.g., split the maps into simple maps, and a new section with "animated scenarios" plus anthing else that's not only an ordinary map (tutorial etc.), maybe add a column with the last tested version, and/or add a "historic" section for 15 years old Gna! freeciv/contrib/maps/, where nobody can say what it was, and since how many years it ceased to be interesting. :roll:

Hardcore DIY, add a bump-comment, the threads are sorted by the last post. In theory threads can be also sticky (the license blurb for the art forum is an example), but it's an ugly trick for special cases, stickies are annoying for readers. IMO more permanent stuff should be on the Wiki, e.g., listed on Projects or wherever it fits (modpacks, tilesets, maps, etc.).

Now, try this "scenario"...

Hehe, looks already better :D Must have been a lot of work positioning all those cities! I see a colonial footprint on the map. If you allow me contructive critic: less cities! Maybe 3 per nation or just enough to cover the most important geographical regions otherwise you cant see through the city jungle. Did you place the cities manually?

I patch the scenario with your advices (less cities). In old version, colonial footprint was an historical image of the year 1750, when european countries rule the world. Now, there are only 30 countries (I join together continental european countries under European Union) and they represent the most important geographical regions of the earth with technological development of XVIII century (before of the 'Industrial Revolution').

Post Scriptum. In "New Scenario - Earth 200x100", I create a scenario like those already present in freeciv, just an earth map with start positions (an earth map 200x100 bigger than earth map present and only modern nations!)

Very good! Looks much nicer and is probably more playable. A simulation test run was also promising. Nice job!

If you are planing on doing more scenarios this population table is helpful if you want to edit cities according to their population. In 1750 its pure speculation but maybe for the future scenarios.

city size (x) -> population

1 = 10'000
2 = 30'000
3 = 60'000
4 = 100'000
5 = 150'000
6 = 210'000
7 = 280'000
8 = 360'000
9 = 450'000
10= 550'000
11= 660'000
12= 780`000
13= 910'000
14= 1'050'000
15= 1`200'000
16= 1'360'000
17= 1'530'000
18= 1'710'000
19= 1'900'000
20= 2'000'000
21= 2'310'000
22= 2'530'000
23= 2'760'000
24= 3'000'000
25= 3'250'000
26= 3'510'000
27= 3'780'000
28= 4'060'000
29= 4'350'000
30= 4'650'000

This is brilliant!!! Thank you so much for creating this. I always wanted to play a giant earth game as the Australians. Back in civ 2 I could fit about 2 or 3 cities in Aus but in yours I fit like 10 lol.. so I can only imagine how big the rest of the world is lol. And you've done a pretty accurate job with the Aus terrain too! Love it!

Kinda wish there was a version of this giant earth map with many more nation starts (forgetting timeline accuracy) in their geographically correct positions. I'd love an earth game with a huge amount of players. But hey 30 is still pretty darn good lol!

I get the feeling from the listed nations that the United states have a super easy start due to their being no Indian nations nearby. Asia looks crowded, Europe is crowded, middle east crowded, Africa is crowded, South America is crowded but united states player gets a huuuuge gap between the Canada & Mexico players to rapidly expand unchallenged.
