These strange messages : Are They Spam ? Is it a Virus ?
Should I beware of them ?
How come nobody reports them ?
What can I do ?
Usually I just log out and wait clearer skies...
What's THIS ?
Re: What's THIS ?
I think they're spam, it looks like some bot has broken the captcha. I reported a fey of them at first, but I'm too lazy to do it every single day.
Re: What's THIS ?
The Korean spam is spam. Yes, they've apparently broken the captcha.
I don't know if there's badware on the end of any links; I wouldn't recommend following them. Nothing virusy in the fact that they're filling up these forums though.
I'm clearing it out once or more times a day. I'm poking at ways to stop them more permanently as time permits; nothing successful so far.
There's little point reporting it, I'll see it anyway.
(Please don't post topics like this in the "Announcements" forum! -- I've moved this one.)

thanks for your answers and sorry about the goof.
Re: What's THIS ?
Spam should be a known and partially solved problem also for phpBB, e.g., there might be a setting limiting the number of posts for new users, or requiring moderation for 4 or more posts by new users, or a daily post limit for users with less than 50 posts, or other stupid tricks frustrating stupid spammers (spamming this forum for SEO is certified braindead). Actually I already looked on the phpBB site, but they offer far too many recipes.JTN wrote:There's little point reporting it, I'll see it anyway.
Re: What's THIS ?
Ideally the solution should NOT be frustrating to admins. Including human to the loop always has the downside that time spent on accepting posts from new users or whatever is away from time spent on actual freeciv development.dunnoob wrote:frustrating stupid spammers
Re: What's THIS ?
No problem, only admins can pick a wannabe-solution presumably created by another admin elsewhere, if the solution turns out to be worse than the original spam-problem they can undo it, and if all else fails they can appoint all users with more than 64*64*30/100/5 non-spam posts to deputies. Volunteers with less posts have to pass an exam, where they have to explain what 245.76 has to do with Freeciv.cazfi wrote:Ideally the solution should NOT be frustrating to admins.

I've been playing Freeciv and creating rulesets for a few years now, and even I couldn't answer that, so... maybe not?dunnoob wrote:what 245.76 has to do with Freeciv.

Bug #25040, if you're unwilling to "cheat", 11 posts to beat 245.76Caedo wrote: so... maybe not?

One Month later, this spaming continues...
Could it be a topic somewhere in order gather forces and ideas collectively ?
As for myself, it's taking its toll on my paranoia...
