Fusion Power?

What would you like to see in Freeciv? Do you have a good idea what should be improved or how?

Fusion Power?

Post by Arbogast »

In stand alone games -my case- I noticed that one of the last technologies is 'Fusion Power'. And it seems useless, as the help topic doesn't say anything.
What's the point of researching it?
Since it's towards the end of the game, someone's suggestion (sorry, forgot whom) to sell Libs. Unis. and Research Labs looks like a sound idea: more money for military units, for instance.

Yes, checking the classic ruleset there seems to be no references to the tech (nothing requires it). civ2civ3 ruleset seems to have effect to enable terrain transformations tied to it, but tech help probably does not say that (at least there's no manually written help for the tech, and I believe this part is not automatically generated, though I cannot test at the moment)

Yes, there were several posts about the weird CIV2/3 thing about the "geo-ingeneers", but I'm not talking about that.
In the plain vanilla flavor Tech tree, 'Fusion Power' does not point to anything useful. Why have it? Can it be improved?

It's probably just there to resemble reality: We have fusion power (theoretically), but we can't use it (yet).
My suggestion would be that it could have an effect akin to nuclear power and give some units additional movement or firepower or something.

It's leftover from civ2 ruleset. In civ2 it removes risk of Nuclear Meltdown of Nuclear Plants, but we don't have Meltdown implemented. In 2.5 classic ruleset has "Nuclear Disaster" disaster type, though. I don't know if implementing Meltdown as disaster in civ2 ruleset could make it compatible with civ2 Meltdown (not being civ2 expert).

But since 'fusion power' is at the end of the tech tree, it implies that it is also at the end of the game. So any improvement will have little impact.
Maybe a boost towards 'advanced techs' (or some such words), shouldn't be to difficult to implement. 'fer inztance'
