Bridge unit/structure

What would you like to see in Freeciv? Do you have a good idea what should be improved or how?

Bridge unit/structure

Post by XYZ »

In the german states scenario I used lake tiles to form rivers producing by that natural bariers between states since big rivers like the Rhine can be a real obstacle and a bridge that size to cross them is not something natural. I therefore thought of a bridge unit that could transport itself to a lake-river tile owned by the player and placed as a bridge. The details (unit or city structure; being close to a city or not) are of course debatable but I like the idea.

I like the idea too...
This was tackled a while ago under "Re: Bridges? Bridges!" in the Wishlist forum, but it petered out...
I don't understand why a bridge can be build on ONE or TWO ocean tiles instead of using transports and lots of engineers, plus war vessels to protect them. Hey ! This is the Wishlist, ain't it ?

Even better! Should be easier to implement. Maybe a bridge of wood for roads in the beginning and one of steel in later stages for rails. Something like this? :D

Maybe this fantasy suspension bridge over the Red Sea near the Golf of Aden suits you better....

Bridge near Aden ?
Can't see it. But then it's a moot point.
Let's tackle the bridge thing. And then we can do about the make up.
Actually, your wooden bridge wasn't that bad... Maybe the colors didn't look like wood. But like I said, the make up isn't important.
The idea of a bridge is ! :)
Good work !

I just noticed your new suspended bridge. Looks great !
(It took me almost a month the come to this thread. )

I'm in favor of implement it (them), either into downloadable versions or singly, so I could do it myself into my different versions.
Can you that ?

Absolutely no sarcasm...
I have suggesting this idea for a while, waiting for those with the know how to do something, but...
So please, push your idea on !

The bridge(s) look got enough, but do they support roads and railroads ?

I'm not exactly one of "those" :P . Unfortunately I got no idea of nothing besides creating animated scenarios and nation rulesets and give some ideas every now and then. It was just a visualisation to promote the idea. But I agree if someone knows how, please!
