Tutorial: How to render a 3D model for Cimpletoon

Post by Elefant »

You will need: ElefantPack.7z, Blender

Blender: https://www.blender.org/
ElefantPack.7z: https://forum.freeciv.org/f/download/file.php?id=2080

• unzip ElefantPack.7z
• open isorender64x48.blend in blender. (if your model is a blend file, open it first, select the geometry you want, and copy it.)
• import your model (or paste your copied geometry)
• scale your model so that it fits in all the frames. (if it is shaped so that it leaves lots of space, animate it by moving it into place and pressing ctrl+i, location)
• render animation.

Your unit should now be rendered and ready for use with Freeciv.

To add them to the game:
open the xxx.spec file from ElefantPack.spec, change all instances of "path" into the path to the
folder which holds the images, with respect to the freeciv data folder. Then change all instances of "xxx"
to the name of the unit. Add the xxx.spec file to cimpletoon.tilespec and you should be good to go.
It is usually a good idea to put xxx.spec in the same folder as the eight pictures, or to rename it to the name of the unit.
