OK, I just downloaded the new freeciv-win32-2.6.0-alpha-r32296...
I was surprised to see that it is a 7z file, but OK. (all previous versions are .exe files)
I uncompressed it and found that there is no Install.exe file.
So, please tell me how do I install it.

I just updated instructions in the crosser wiki. Thank you for reminding me to check those.
Re: Crosser based Windows snapshot builds
(Reminder: I'm hopeless with techie language)
I found several setup.exes. None of them worked
Tried to follow the instructions from the SF site and didn't understand anything.
While I'm in this topic, there are others things that defeat me, and apparently, I'm not alone here.
1) Don't know how to implement extra tilesets ex.: amplio2 hills pack
2) Don't know how to implement extra patches ex.: 0009-Let-rulesets-force-attacks
Speaking of patches, don't know how to use the patches in the thread "Re: Changes in what a 3.0 ruleset can do".
And so on...

Re: Crosser based Windows snapshot builds
Speaking of this specific build:
http://download.gna.org/freeciv/package ... -r32296.7z
1) The path there tells that it's build from freeciv S2_6 branch. The version number tells the same thing + that it's from revision 32296.
2) The 'crosser-1.0' part of the path tells that it's compatible with crosser-1.0
3) 'win32' part of the filename tells that it's 'win32' (and not 'win64') build
If you want to use also Qt-client, Qt modpack installer, and ruledit (which all use Qt), you need to get 'full' version of the crosser. Together with 2 & 3 above that makes: https://sourceforge.net/projects/crosse ... ull-1.0.7z
If you don't want to use those Qt-based programs, i.e., if you only want to use gtk2-, gtk3-, sdl-, and sdl2-clients, server, gtk2-, gtk3-, and commandline-based versions of modpack installer, you may get smaller download of: https://sourceforge.net/projects/crosse ... ack-1.0.7z
- Unpack both crosser (win32stack) and freeciv packages you downloaded.
- In a DOS prompt
> cd <where you unpacked crosser>
# Run setup for your crosser installation (you need to do this just once for this installation)
> setup.bat
# Activate crosser in you current DOS session - you need to do this for every DOS prompt you open and in which you want to use this version of crosser

Like Zorro would say: "Muchas Gracias Caballero!"
Your suggestions are a mouthful but I will get to it right now, so I'll will let you know.

Re: Crosser based Windows snapshot builds
Well, as you can see from the time posted, it took me several hours to follow your suggestions and in spite of no error messages and after running the last 3 files in your list... nothing happened. All was done from the DOS prompt.
But I still don't know how to install the program or how to run it.
I found a line that bothers me: somewhere in SF (I think) it says that everything must be run under Vista and I'm still with XP.
So for the time being, I'm going back to v2.5.3

Re: Crosser based Windows snapshot builds
Well, that's the latest release anyway. 2.6 is still a long way from a stable release, or even beta.Arbogast wrote:So for the time being, I'm going back to v2.5.3

Wait.
I still have the r32098 but that nasty Research blank window is a bothersome angle...So...

Re: Crosser based Windows snapshot builds
Indeed, Vista is minimum requirement for all freeciv-2.6 builds (not because crosser and Installer build would need to have same requirements, but by coincidence they have been bumped that way for both). Even Vista is going to reach end-of-life from MS in a year, and XP security updates stopped two years ago.Arbogast wrote:I found a line that bothers me: somewhere in SF (I think) it says that everything must be run under Vista and I'm still with XP.
However, you may find build ID 3 from http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/winbuilds.html (table I just today created about the Windows builds I hope to make when I have an opportunity) interesting.
Re: Crosser based Windows snapshot builds
I made crosser based builds from both S2_6 and TRUNK using older crosser-0.15. Those should work even on XP.
Crosser to use with these is either
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crosse ... l-0.15.7z/ (full version if you want to use also Qt-programs) or
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crosse ... k-0.15.7z/ (version without Qt-programs support)
Freeciv builds are:
S2_6 version:
http://download.gna.org/freeciv/package ... -r32373.7z
TRUNK version:
http://download.gna.org/freeciv/package ... -r32373.7z
