Problem with the forum login

You can get help here if Freeciv doesn't start on your computer, or if you keep getting fatal errors while playing etc.

Problem with the forum login

Post by wieder »

I received this message and this is kind of the only place I can post it on.

This user:
http://forum.freeciv.org/f/memberlist.p ... file&u=208

Hare is the message:

Corbeau - Today at 8:25 PM
Hello. Some assistance needed. I was trying to log into the Freeciv forum, but got this:

"You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below."

The problem is: no CAPTCHA.
Can you forward this message either to some admin or post it on the forum?

I'll try to look into it tonight or tomorrow, if no-one else gets to it sooner.

Ok, thanks.

Development: on this computer (job) I am "permanently logged in" so apparently I'm... logged in... but on another (home) it seems I deleted my cookies and when trying to log (back) in I messed up the password and this happened.

Actually, this is not the first time it happened. The first time was a year or three back and it was the same problem: no CAPTCHA.

As someone who's spent way too much time browsing TFTS, some obligatory questions:
  1. The freeciv forum's "captcha" doesn't look like normal captchas (at least it didn't when I just tried it). Did you maybe just not see it?
  2. Did you try turning it (your browser, as well as your PC) off and on again?
  3. Do you have an ad blocker, and if you do, did you try disabling it?
  4. Did you accidentally disable Javascript?
  5. Did you wait for the web page to fully load?
  6. Does the problem persist accross different browsers?

Oh, wait, you mean *that* CAPTCHA

Ok, move along, people, nothing to see here...

Rule 1 of tech support: Try the most simple approach first, even if it seems unlikely that that could be the problem.

Glad it was just a simple Layer 8 thing.

You're not the only person to be confused by the wording.

If I were any good, I'd go and customise it, but in the meantime, here's a screenshot for anyone else who's confused.
"You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below."

I just spent 2 months, yeah 2 months, with the same problem, WHEW!
Finally, Nivens helped me out, so he is my savior and witness.
