Having trouble loading Ancients modpack

I'm running Freeciv 2.5.1, with the gui-gtk-2.0 client on Xubuntu Linux 15.10

I just downloaded "Ancients" with the modpack installer, and according to the README file, I'm supposed to load it with the command:

Code: Select all

freeciv-gtk2 -t ancients
which I do, but I get the error message:

Code: Select all

Tileset problem, it's probably incompatible with the ruleset:
No roadstyle for "road.rail" or "-".
I'm not entirely sure what to do next.

Ancients is a modpack suffering from the problems of not-strictly-paired rulesets and tilesets. As long as you use rulesets and tilesets that come with freeciv itself, you can use any tileset with any ruleset (there's no tileset just for civ2 rules).

Ancients ruleset and tileset are incompatible with most other rulesets/tilesets (you can't use ancients tileset with default ruleset). Your problem seems like one caused by trying to use default ruleset (that has railroad) with ancients tileset (that has no gfx for railroad)

In practice you must run server separately and to load ancients ruleset there before connecting clients that have ancients tileset loaded.

As Cazfi said, or visit the wiki  In theory it shouldn't be too hard to add the about ten missing units to Amplio for compatibility with Ancients. Somebody tried that with Ampcients. The main problem are the marines, an ancient marine is no Amplio marine,
