Running with all the options turned up to 11?

You can get help here if Freeciv doesn't start on your computer, or if you keep getting fatal errors while playing etc.

Running with all the options turned up to 11?

Postby Viktyr Gehrig » Sat May 25, 2013 5:49 am

I'm on a Win7x64 machine with 8GB RAM, trying to run 2.4.0-beta2. Whenever I try to start a game with the maximum map size and number of players, it works on getting started for about half an hour and then crashes horribly.

Is there anything I can do to make the game run at this level? It doesn't have to be fast; I just want it to be playable.

Otherwise, is there any way short of trial and error to figure out the maximum size and scope of a game you can run on a machine without crashing it?

I had the problem that a 126-player game was very slow, and fixed it by removing explorers from the starting units.. Otherwise the AI's would form an incredibly complex and ever changing diplomacy matrix between everyone.
