Hi
this is my first post but i was eager to try the new Freeciv beta but i keep getting this serious error. None of the previous freeciv versions had it so i decided to post here as it makes the game unplayable.
I can trigger this bug easily with these steps:
1. Start new Game
2. Open more game options
3. resize that options window instantly triggers this error.
Also occurs when i move a windows e.g. City window ingame.
My system is Windows 7 64bit.
Hope this helps a bit. I attached a screenshot of the error.
I hope this can be fixed as i love this game and play it over several years now. Thx for all your hard work.

Bug in Freeciv 2.5.0b2
Re: Bug in Freeciv 2.5.0b2
Odd, I can't reproduce this for AUTO (de) or (en) with the server options or local client settings; resize, move around, no problem on my Windows 7 64bit box.
Update: Your map area 320 (320,000 tiles) and your specials 1000 (permille, i.e., on all tiles) are "unusual", but in a quick test I still failed to crash the client.

Yeah this error is odd i know. I never got it with any other freeciv version or other program. First time but in my case reproducable. So maybe somebody has an idea what might be the problem?

How much memory do you have? Map of that size take plenty of it, especially if you also have a lot of players.dunnoob wrote:Update: Your map area 320 (320,000 tiles)

Re: Bug in Freeciv 2.5.0b2
16GB Ram should be enough i hope. I have experimented with mapsize and players as at first i wanted to do a maximum possible map but that failed as freeciv crashed at allocating memory. So i made this smaller map with only 20 factions which works quite good. I don't think that this is related to the crash at all.

Hello,
Does it happen with the modpack installer ? If so, I'd say the Gtk+ installation is corrupted. You would need to download and install Freeciv again.

I used the installer from the freeciv site.
I uninstalled freeciv and reinstalled it and the problem is still present.

Could reproduce the bug under Windows 7 64 bits, Avast Free antivirus.
What I found 'till now :

What I found 'till now :
- The problem is common to all Gtk dialogs, including the file selection dialog
- Disabling the custom theme by renaming gtkrc-2.0 solves the problem
- Commenting out line 13 of gtkrc (menubar related) solves the problem
- Commenting out line 15 of menubar.rc solves the problem
- Commenting out line 17 of menubar.rc solves the problem
- Commenting other lines doesn't help
