Donations now through opencollective.com

Post by cazfi »

Freeciv.org donations are now handled through opencollective.com, which should make our budgeting much more transparent. We need the money for hosting the project servers (e.g. this forum, modpack installation, metaserver, files area http://files.freeciv.org, some other development related things). We share the hardware with warzone2100 project to lower costs for both projects. We just moved from quite ancient hardware (which still had same costs as it had when it was new) to equivalent modern hardware, to lower our costs.

See Freeciv donations page, or go directly to donating

From https://opencollective.com/warzone2100 :

Today's balance: $396.95
Yearly server and infrastructure costs: $1,100

Money is not the only thing making future uncertain for freeciv.org infrastructure (including this forum), but it's one.

Could you run an instance of Freeciv-web on this new server? With Google ads, it could help pay the bills, like in the past.

Kindly reminder that consider donations also to actual freeciv development on freeciv.org, even if you're using it via some downstream project (those collect donations just for themselves - no money given to them end to freeciv.org)
