Stable release 2.6.0

Rather more than three years after 2.5.0, and representing over five years of development, the next major version of Freeciv, 2.6.0, has been released.

2.6.x includes a redesigned Qt client with multiplayer features, experimental map scaling, a substantially revised version of the civ2civ3 ruleset, GriffonSpade's Hexemplio large hex tileset, and much more flexibility for custom rulesets. See NEWS-2.6.0 for details of what's changed since the last stable release line, 2.5.x.

For those who tried the betas and release candidates, there's a short list of changes since RC2 (translations and graphics).

Source code is available here. Compiled Windows packages for 2.6.0 aren't available yet, but should follow shortly; in the meantime, the 2.6.0-RC2 packages are still available and almost as good.

I've also reviewed and fixed some problems with some of the add-ons available with the "modpack installer" utility for 2.6, so if you have trouble with those during the betas, it might be worth retrying.

(While 2.6 is now the main stable version, we do expect to make a final 2.5.12 release at some point, mopping up bug fixes that have been made since 2.5.11 was released.)
