Release candidate 2.5.0-RC1

Post by JTN »

The first release candidate for the next major release of Freeciv, 2.5.0, is now available.

Notably, some of the civ2civ3 rules have been changed to improve balance, and its online help has been overhauled. GriffonSpade's improvements to the Amplio2 and Cimpletoon tilesets are also included.

To see what else has changed since beta2, see the full list of changes. For a reminder of what's new in 2.5.x compared to 2.4.x, see NEWS-2.5.0.

If no showstopping bugs are reported in the near future, this candidate will become the next stable release, 2.5.0. Please report any bugs you find.

Source code is available here. Compiled Windows packages aren't available yet, but should follow shortly; we'll post again when they're available.

Windows packages are now available. These should fix a number of severe crashes in beta2.

Also, the Qt client is now promoted out of the 'testing' area.

The release of the Windows builds starts the clock on this release candidate. If no showstopper bugs are found before the weekend of 7-8 March, we plan to release 2.5.0 that weekend.
