freecivweb.org is not responding today. Is it just me? I'm kind of surprised since the server is usually stable.

I can confirm, it's been down since around 4 PM today I believe. Would be nice to know from OP if this is maintenance due to the new patch being applied or if they've encountered some problems.

I only discovered the game a few days ago while never having played a Civ game before and I've been loving it, so it really sucks that it went offline. Hopefully you guys can fix it, but do let us know anyway.

By the way, I've found that there's another site hosting Freeciv Web which is still up: https://fcw.movingborders.es

I'm not sure as to why the redundancy is there, but it's good that it is while freecivweb.org is down. From what I understand there originally were many sites which implemented the source code of the Freeciv Web project, but eventually people started converging down into the freecivweb.org (OP correct me if I'm wrong).

The only catch is that you can't transfer saves, but can't complain since at least I get to play the game ;) .

Finally I found that freeciv-web has a dedicated Discord server: https://discord.gg/Spa6UpS

I think this is the best channel to get in touch. Here's what they say:
Freeciv-web Status: Freeciv-web is currently down. There seems to be some kind of issue with our host/server provider at Hetzner. We have emailed them through the correct channel and are currently waiting on a human response to go to the next steps to get the server back up. Since this involves human communications, I can't guess if this might be just hours or longer. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks man, I had tried looking up a Twitter account for Freeciv but I hadn't thought of Discord. I'll be joining immediately.

Thanks for this as well, it never hurts to have more backups.

By the way, I think I saw you hop in as a spectator in one game I was playing on movingborders.es. I hope you can forgive the poor empire managing, I'm learning as I go :D :D :D

There never were more sites with Freeciv Web, maybe you are thinking of Longturn.net, but that one is now almost 20 years old and has nothing to do with FCW. The current FCW migrated from play.freeciv.org and the "moving borders" was set up during one of the long shutdown periods of FCW. It was supposed to be temporary and I guess it's still active because nobody bothered (or needed, really) to flip the switch.
