"So long, and thanks for all the fish"

... in the immortal words of Douglas Adams.

Unfortunately, I have been dealing with a slow-boil emergency situation in RL since March that has finally begun to boil over. Dealing with it will require all of my concentration and attention for the coming months. Consequently, I have decided to leave Freeciv-Web, starting immediately.

I have handed over control of the two Discord servers I own -- the "government" and the main New Freeciv-Web -- to Lexxie and MartinZ, respectively. I hope they can continue, maybe even finish, what we started some months ago, in any form, whether a "government" or otherwise.

The "government" we established was never meant to usurp control from or assert it over anyone. Its purpose was to make Freeciv-Web resilient and sustainable in terms of human and technical resources. Whatever its fate, I recognize that my time as "leader" was just a ripple in the pond. And that's quite okay. :)

I am really happy to have gotten to know everyone (even that curmudgeon, Corbeau!). I am truly sorry to be leaving so abruptly.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I was wondering, is there any way I can transfer my saved games to the new replacement server at isotrident.com? I had a pretty long game running on play.freeciv.org and I would hate to have to start all over again. Is my save game gone or can it be restored somehow? Please let me know.

Anything that was on play.freeciv.org has been gone for a long time. I don't think any of the data was backed up when Andreas killed it. Also, isotrident.com is actually the third iteration, the second being freecivweb.org, which is still aroung and mostly run by pneu as far as I know. So right now, we have two differenc instances of Freeciv-web.

Hi, yes I am aware of freecivweb.org. I tried playing there first before I tried isotrident.com. Unfortunately freecivweb.org doesn't appear to work. It always throws a "Network Error" when trying to start a game, which is why I went to isotrident.com

When did Andreas shut down freeciv-web? This post is only a few days old so I assumed it was recently. I remember a couple months ago I tried logging in and was still able to load my game. Was hoping the data was backed up somewhere. If not, I guess I'll have to start over =(

March this year. There's an old announcement about it displayed at the top of the forum.
And as far as I know, the data wasn't backed up. The final states of the current web-longturn games were made publicly available (somewhere) but as far as I know, nothing else was saved.

I hope all is well, and maybe we can share new games in the future!
