Can we split the thread "Longturn" under Variants into Longturn.org and Longturn web. Its confusing if both use the same section.

Or maybe just throw all the Freeciv-web Longturn stuff into the Freeciv-web subforum?

Since it seems the admin is making a very drastic cut between the two, maybe this would be a good idea.

I don't think this is a good idea.

Just some thoughts. Don't take this too seriously :)

I'm not sure about splitting since both variants are about multiplayer experience and especially on longturn.org there are even more variants.

Then again if people get confused, it might help to mention what game we are talking about? For example the upcoming LT40 is "very" different from the upcoming LT39 and that's different from the web multiplayer games. if I've understood correctly the web multiplayer games are not all the same and while they all utilize the same ruleset they have different kind of maps and server settings.

The clients are of course big difference between different games. And even with native client there are some differences. The new and shiny Qt client for example tells you if someone is sharing vision to someone. The same can't be seen with the GTK client. Not sure how this works with the web version.

And to complicate things longturn.org games are currently using Freeciv 2.5 while the web version is using 2.6. And someone brave might be using the new 3.x series :)

Furthermore, I wouldn't call the former "Longturn.org". Maybe some other Longturn community/server/group/whatever appears some day. Just "Longturn" may be enough.

But, after some thinking, maybe this isn't a good idea. I'd rather explain privately if anyone is interested.

Why is it confusing?

There was also Greatturn and some other game(s) in the past. And new ones will be here one day. Hopefully the current ones are here to stay but you never know... All the variants have a different reputation and they will be remembered :)

Definitely maybe add a more obvious way to mark what variant we are talking about?

Problem with that is that plenty of Freeciv-web players might not even really know that there is something else. The way Freeciv-web is marketed, an outsider wouldn't necessarily realize that Freeciv is a thing without "-web".

Well, this may be simply because Freeciv-web is marketed way better than Freeciv and Longturn. The thing to do is market the latter two better, not complain about Freeciv-web marketing.
