Auto attack manual?

Is there any comprehensive manual of how units behave when I turn on 'autoattack' option? I'm trying to understand the code in server/unittools.h for severral days but could not get what is this pessimist probability of two numbers. And in the game, why Crusaders can't rush from a distance on Musketeers but U-boats don't stop sinking my cruisers? (I'm now testing 3.0 so maybe there are some bugs in my version).
