How often are people on these days?

Post by demens »

I've been really busy dealing with work, life, and hospital stuff so I've been gone for a few years. Do many games happen anymore?

Longturn.org, play.freeciv.org, meta.freeciv.org: For details see the longturn (f=20) + freeciv-web (f=24) + multiplayer (f=16) sub-forums here. Civland.org still exists, but Greatturn is inactive and/or dead.

If it's just a regular game (ie you're both playing at the same time):
One of you start the Server program of the version you want to use.
-Make sure you have the port open in your firewalls!
Both start the Client program of the version you want to use.
On the Client main menu select "Connect to network game"
-In the "Connect" box, put the IP of the computer with the server running on it (localhost for the computer running the server, if you're not using a third machine)
-Press the Connect button.

You should then be on the startup, just as when playing strictly through the client (and built-in single-player server). Set your options, pick your nations, and start the game.

I believe that's what needs to be done to connect. Someone else can likely give more accurate instructions.
