Various builds of freeciv-2.6.0-beta1 have been downloaded from sourceforge.net over 2000 times, and we have received relatively little bug reports. So, in general S2_6 branch seems quite good already. Beta2 is expected in the coming weeks ( http://www.hostedredmine.com/issues/698013 )
One area that needs work before 2.6.0 final is documentation. Various documentation tickets are linked to http://www.hostedredmine.com/issues/698197 Working on these tickets should require little or no coding skills, so they should be suitable also for new contributors.

Re: Status of freeciv-2.6
Current estimate for 2.6.0 release is June 2018. ( http://www.hostedredmine.com/issues/729161 )

If you don't need 2.6 beta/rc version, then you can download it from https://flathub.org/apps.html .
I must write that the version is gtk2 version.

About 3.0: Version 2.6 datafile format freeze (d3f) milestone was at March 2016. It's unlikely that we will reach 3.0 d3f this year, so it seems that 3.0 is currently about 3 years behind 2.6.cazfi wrote:Current estimate for 2.6.0 release is June 2018. ( http://www.hostedredmine.com/issues/729161 )
