I've recently started to be annoyed with how the mercerator projection currently distorts the Earth map to wild proportions. Apparently potential methods for spherical maps have been discussed at https://freeciv.fandom.com/wiki/Sphere, but I don't see much new information about it. Has there been any progress on this issue? If not, I highly suggest it, and would like to know how I can help progress it.
