Licenses

What would you like to see in Freeciv? Do you have a good idea what should be improved or how?

Licenses

Post by dunnoob »

The FFmpeg ports to Windows by zeranoe contain a folder licenses with the licenses for all used 3rd party libraries, zlib, PNG, and so on.

Freeciv should have a similar place for upstream stuff, e.g., README.installer is the GPLv2 with an intro about Freeciv shown by the installer on Windows, it is not the license of the installer containing a special note of the 7-zip author about LZMA used in the Freeciv Windows installer binaries. Major parts of this upstream license stuff could be copied from FFmpeg. Or filled in, it's generally not hard to find a GTK+, Qt, ICU, SDL, OpenSSL, etc. license.

It's also not hard to miss stuff, e.g., the attribution for the dawning fanfare (stdmusic), or the attribution for the ICC profiles in KRA files for a Qt theme. About an hour ago I didn't know Krita and I also didn't know Ellen Stone, but the site is interesting and deserves some kind of attribution.
