but there is lack of a modern successor, something like troops on ATV (quads). By the way, I have no idea, how such troops are named?
Light infantry is kind of covered by mountain infantry and paratroopers if you ask me. However German mountain infantry still uses mules but also has some Wiesel mini-tanks and -as many other nations as well- Bandvagn 206 for all-terrain transport.

A Bandvagn 206 could depict the all-terrain capability in contrast to motorized infantry...

That's probably the only sane way to go forward in getting these included to freeciv. Since there was no response in a year, I started doing this myself (for amplio2 units at first).

Cool, thanks for doing that! Otherwise they would have just been lost in the oblivion of this forum...

Here is trident extra_units.png and a beginning of extra_units.spec with grid definition in place. I decided to have that grid with one pixel borders between cells, unlike trident units.png. When pasting units to that grid, a couple of them leaked on top of borders (didn't fit in their cell). I hope someone fills the .spec with correct tags and credits. Also, are all of these sprites certainly available under GPLv2+?

VladimirSlavik made some of the units:

ngunjaca made the rowboat (its a close up of one of the boats for his Amplio graphics)
http://forum.freeciv.org/f/viewtopic.ph ... a&start=10

danau contributed a zeppelin

I made the rest of them or modified existing ones.

However, I took the dragons from Heroes of Might and Magic III which is from 1999 and I saw all sorts of fan made extension/modifications etc. but to play it safe I would kick them out if necessary.

I probably did some violence to your art while copying and pasting sprites from one file to another (I didn't even try to keep the sprite placement on tile exactly the same as original png lacked the borders to help in that), but at least we got them in. Initial version is now in master & S3_0 for starting iterating improvements on.

Don't worry, I probably didn't do a proper placement myself anyhow. This has been a moral boost to finish what I have started a while ago. I will not only add new units in the coming months but also increase the quality from existing ones that look halfhearted.

Current versions of the S3_0 trident unit files can be seen from
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/freec ... /units.png and https://raw.githubusercontent.com/freec ... _units.png

As I said in http://forum.freeciv.org/f/viewtopic.ph ... 00&start=6 , I plan to make Windows build with these within a couple of days.
