Higher contrast tunnels that stick closer to the highway.

Likely final version of tunnels that I adapted for XU. Tunnel minimized overlap with canals/rivers compared to previous version. Burrow Tubes also changed to minimize overlap with bridges (Previous version of burrow tubes may be preferable for alio, since it has no bridges).

Could we have, and would they make sense, graphics for "Thick Mountains" that would look as if they were made of giant crystals?

It sounds interesting, in theory. Not sure how well it would actually work out when implemented, and certainly beyond my skill to make it.

In the maybe easier tasks side we have the small icons for alio. This includes at least government icons (Despotism, Communism, Democracy, Dual Communism, Dual Democracy) and specialists (Culturists, Government Merchants, Scientists). However, I wonder if we would want to make these icons in a bit bigger format than those of old standard tilesets. The UI requries some other small icons to be of the same size as these, so they would need remaking too; science progress icons, nuclear winter & global warming icons, tax, sci, lux icons.

How about at least recolorizing our current mountains to something less Earth-like?

Also the Boiling Oceans could use some a bit "stranger" color (for one, as far as I remember, it says nowhere that they are made of water)

To some extend we can even go gfx first - we can adjust the descriptions to match the looks.

Added a wiki page about art missing from "full" alio tileset. Of course, initial version of alio doesn't need to have everything in itself (can reuse other tilesets), and some of the icons are completely optional.

JFTR, some images in category:alio are only placeholders, i.e., good enough for the purposes of Freeciv-manual about a year ago. Please overwrite the placeholders with new images when available. The alio redirection to Alien world could be deleted (requires admin rights), and your subpage could then be moved to alio, otherwise an ordinary Wiki search for alio would always end up on Alien world. I linked your subpage at See also, but that's hard to find (and of course Wiki users are not supposed to edit pages or subpages of other users. :D )

Where are these Highway sprites available?

In the basic roads.png -- it only needed the individual 7 direction parts, rather than needing a full 64 set. (IIRC rails and maglevs were previously in it too, but 64 separate tiles is pretty massive, deserving of their own sheets, so they were stripped out)
