Alien World ruleset is now maintained in freeciv proper version control for freeciv version 2.5. The plan is to make it part of actual release in freeciv 2.6.
- For freeciv 2.3 one can get latest version by entering URL "http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/modinst/2. ... -4.modpack" to freeciv-modpack.
- For freeciv 2.4 one can get latest version by launching freeciv-modpack with parameter "-L http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/modinst/2.4/modpack.list" and selecting alien from the modpack list provided
- For freeciv 2.5 there's no versions available at the moment
- Freeciv 2.6 should contain alien ruleset out-of-the-box

Re: Alien World
There's new alien ruleset version 2.4-5 for freeciv-2.4 available.
For freeciv 2.4 one can get latest version by launching freeciv-modpack with parameter "-L http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/modinst/2.4/modpack.list" and selecting alien from the modpack list provided.
Re: Alien World
This does not work in windows ?
Re: Alien World
What do you mean? If passing commandline parameters to freeciv-modpack.exe, you need to run it from DOS-prompt (commandline) so that you can pass them. Alternatively you can pass correct modpack (not modpack list) URL directly to "Modpack URL" field of freeciv-modpack even if you have not launched with alternative modpack list viśible. That's less ideal as the URL is subject to change as I update the ruleset, but for alien-2.4-5 it's http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/modinst/2. ... -5.modpackArbogast wrote:This does not work in windows ?
Re: Alien World
Sorry about not understanding the whole thing.
I get a message saying that 'It doesn't like like a URL' or something to that effect. I tried with and without the '-L' thing, and no luck.
Please understand that under the DOS prompt, it does not accept *.exe files, but the *.cmd gives me back the same unknown answer.
And that's what I been trying: from the URL window: pasting your directions and 'glitch'!

Re: Alien World
Reading the freeciv-modpack.cmd it seems that it expects first parameter to be the language code (can be 'auto' to use system default) and only parameters starting from second are passed to freeciv-modpack.exe. So this might work:Arbogast wrote:the *.cmd gives me back the same unknown answer.
Code: Select all
freeciv-modpack.cmd auto -L http://www.cazfi.net/freeciv/modinst/2.4/modpack.list
Re: Alien World
Tried that. It says 'This does not look like an URL for a modpack' (I'm translating, so it may be it is 'doesn't') and I still get NADA!
BTW, *.exe files under DOS are... well, I'm trying to be polite.

Re: Alien World
That sounds like the message it would say if you entered that modpack list URL into "Modpack URL" field.Arbogast wrote:It says 'This does not look like an URL for a modpack' (I'm translating, so it may be it is 'doesn't')
In the attached screenshot I've both started freeciv-modpack (linux has no .exe -suffix for programs) with alternative modpack list, and "Modpack URL" shows alien ruleset modpack URL.
