Re: Developer's request for comment: direct railway path

I have a pathfinder written in Lua. I only run it in mapgen callback so peformance issues are not easily assessed but what I can say is that its use is intensive in that callback and I have NOT noticed any performance issues starting up a new game. I would think that for interactive use performance ...

Re: trade routes in the GTK3 client

You will know. The city report is shown when you select the City tab: (menu) -> Civilization->Cities (F4).

As it happens the columns you add (or subtract) are recorded in the client save file. You can also change the position using drag and drop but this is NOT saved (but it should be.)

Re: trade routes in the GTK3 client

Edit: Btw I searched the forum out of curiosity and couldn't find a single occurrence of the term "battle group", I have no idea what that could be. Another topic that was discussed and then (almost???) forgotten. Try the low numbered function keys with/without shift(or ctrl?) These can b...

Re: trade routes in the GTK3 client

Is there no way to see what active trade routes a city has? I'm having a hard time managing them, without knowing what I already have. I can display trade routes in the map, but that's pretty cumbersome and doesn't give me any information on revenue. On citydlg, hold (the information closes on butt...

Re: Technology: how do I keep up with AI?

IMO, it is a question of strategy, ruleset and experience. In my games I follow (almost) none of the advice above (including that from Ignatus). But to start with I am using a modified version of civ1. (Some of the modifications are published, some not, but they are ALL designed to improve fidelity ...

Re: For comment: proposed changes in how caravan science bonus behaves

Is it compatible with Civilization I/II? Little of this is compatible with Civ I; both current and proposed. In Civ I you lose all tech points when you: change tech (even if you change back in the turn). complete research on a tech (that is the excess is lost), but this is not quite as bad as it so...

Re: Favorite Tilesets

Good to know. It's not long since I wondered if it was worth the time to implement a feature that makes difference only in square topologies (ability to check if a direction is cardinal or not in lua - all directions are cardinal in hex topologies) Can already be done in Lua. No need for more hardc...

And I do. The trick is to look for a transporter (ship) that has just delivered a caravan.

Re: Some air units related oddities

Some additional ideas: 1. One could consider just implementing layers as a third dimension - that is you jut add z as another coordinate. Vision would then work in the same way as it does now - you just calculate the metric and compare to what the unit is capable of. Movement (and attack) would be s...

Re: Some air units related oddities

Would you want some ruleset setting to change that? Not sure what kind of usability issues that would cause if the warrior then tries to move to the tile where the aircraft is, unknown to it (especially if the aircraft is not unreachable, but something that the warrior would be able to attack) Anot...
