Re: RoundSquare tileset

Don't get too carried away with big numbers. Do remember that one of the core principles of Civ is to keep things as simple relatable integers. It's better to work with 2's and 3's than 12's and 18's. And to quote Sid Meier: "If you're ever uncertain about a number, either double it or cut it i...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

As far as I can tell, there were no graphics allocated to yields above 9. Is there code for them? I don't know. City-sizes are drawn by separate little number icons for the 1's, 10's, and 100's places, each offset in their proper positions. The Food/Production/Trade values are done in a similar mann...

Re: What to do about micromanagement?

I agree that the need to shuffle units from one city to another to manage their support costs and unhappiness is a great annoyance. I am glad that later Civ games did away with that, but it remains in FreeCiv. How does unit upkeep work in proprietary Civilization games? Civ1, Civ2, Alpha Centauri: ...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

I would hope that graphics like this could be added to the distro's as an ALTERNATIVE for those that prefer gameplay over eye candy, leaving the originals for those who prefer the converse (as we have seen). It would be nice, but for now we must be content with just downloading it and installing it...

Re: Is there a Utility to convert Civ2 saves/scenarios to FreeCiv?

What I was really after is copying the MAP. Trying to duplicate every Tile (which I succeeded at), every City (which I partly succeeded at) and every Unit (which I barely attempted yet) is an incredibly tedious and time consuming task. Automate that and 90% of the work is done. FreeCiv already has a...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

How do people feel about the red-pips on the 1-food tiles? ... -Does it show "this tile costs 1 food surplus to work"? That means that the tileset works well only with rulesets that have food_cost of 2. Most do, of course... Yes, it is limited in that sense. Freeciv is built around the pr...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

Ok, version 0.3 is available for download. Burn the old graphics folder and make way for the future! :) Here's that same scene with the slightly slimmer HP bars of the new version. https://i.imgur.com/cA5Xebg.png The HP dots are still distinct, but the bar doesn't overlap with the Yield-Pips any mor...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

This new trident tileset looks like chessboard, but it is what I expect from overhead trident set. If I would like to have realistic tileset, I would use isometric one. Yeah, I started out with Trident because I just needed to see more map at once to properly judge strategic situations. And when yo...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

I have been experimenting with adding Pip-Based tile yield graphics to replace the food/production/trade numerals. I have also done a lot of tweaking of the HP bars to make them easier to read more precisely. https://i.imgur.com/hxFlRe9.png I like the granularity the HP bars provide, but I worry tha...
