Re: SLAVERS!!!

I just wanted to tell you all that I'm on a modified version of the FreeCiv version 2.5.6 that will include, among other things, slave-taking functionality. I'll make it fairly modular, so individual users and rulesets can adjust how slaves are taken et cetera as much as possible. I'm actually learn...

Windows 64-bit

Dear developers, I'm having a first look at the source code for Freeciv 2.5.6 right now and was wondering if there was any reason why there doesn't seem to be any separate functionality for native 64-bit Windows in the server initialization functions? If it right now runs exclusively as a 32-bit pro...

Re: There are some useless buildings in classic ruleset

In one of the rulesets I've been working on, Women's Suffrage does what it does in the classic, but it also changes the nature of Democratic and Republican governments worldwide. Democracies (including those other than yours) see an increase in their growth step to 20 cities per unhappy citizen, whi...

Re: SLAVERS!!!

Hmmm. As a thought, I kinda wonder if libraries should actually cost more to maintain prior to the printing press instead. Books had to be written one at a time, by hand, after all. I do see your point about the huge effect the sociophilosophical situation creates. The tech certainly makes it easie...

Re: SLAVERS!!!

I would actually group Monarch with Communism and Despotism: It's totalitarian. No monarchy in the history of the world has EVER been totalitarian... Yes, totalitarian was the wrong word. Dictatorial is more apt. While monarchs generally didn't micromanage, they are rulers , not leaders, and effect...

Re: Remaking the map generator

3 - if you need artwork to start from and use hex, ampliohexbigGT has a lot of space stuff (Though at large scale). It's missing a number of things where my inspiration dried up, but it includes a simple unit set (in 6 directions for the space ones. If you wish you use them for 8 directions, simply...

Re: Giving Units

It could also allow a technologically advanced nation to be an arms dealer - selling units beyond the technological capabilities of other nations for gold.

Re: Wanting to get back into Civ

Yes, but the oceanography is exceeding simple - basically just deep ocean and coastal water. I'm thinking of modifying the map generator and starting location selector (for a different reason actually) and, if I do, I was thinking about adding some more complex oceanography to support both ocean cit...

Re: Government Imbalance?

OTOH, there's also the "Cowboys and Indians" strategy: Republic in the early game to massively increase technology and have better units, ships and Factories for the bloodbath later on when you switch to Monarchy or Communism. It also gives you lots of tax to spend on rush buys and diploma...

Re: A diplomatic game flaw

You might just need to switch out of democracy man. I've had games where a Communist Revolution occurred because of a similar diplomatic situation.
