Re: HUGE earth map (500x250)
How does Freeciv know where to start everybody? Is the save file programmed with them? Yes -- potential start positions can be specified in the save file, and each position can have some nation restrictions associated with it (either the subset of nations which are allowed, or those that are not). ...

Oops, yes, I've reproduced that, and more trouble besides. I've raised bug #21159.

Re: Glaciers and Frozen Water
This is something I too have been considering for some years (I've been calling the frozen water terrain "Sea Ice"), and I've been meaning to post about. What originally made me think about it is the unsatisfactory situation with polar regions: either you have "separatepoles" set...

Re: Art required for freeciv proper
gm1530's "Inaccessible" tile is now in svn. Here's what it looks like in context ("France" scenario): InaccessibleFrance.png I find the compass rose is a bit "foreground-y" and distracting, but since it will never have a unit or city on it I suppose it doesn't matter. A...

Stable release 2.4.0
25 months after 2.3.0, the next major version of Freeciv, 2.4.0, has been released. See NEWS-2.4.0 for details of what has changed since the last stable release line, 2.3.x. For those who tried the betas and release candidates, this version is practically identical to RC2. Source code is available h...

Re: Freeciv-manual.exe putters!
It's probably worth noting that freeciv-manual, even when working as designed, is probably going to be a bit disappointing to end users. Really, all it's useful for at the moment is as a helper to keep pages on the central wiki like this one up-to-date with new releases (and we haven't actually done...

Re: 2.4.0-RC2 release notes
(Moved from announcement topic.) In the list of changes since RC1 I found in the wiki link It was not possible to install Freeciv using the default (en_US) translation on a non-English version of Windows (although it was possible to use British English, en_GB). GNA#21059 which is not true. The defau...
