Re: maps with different projection ?

How do they know that it is valid depth data if they don't know where the values originated??? Perhaps they know something was invalid when receiving error reports ? Maybe it would be better to use the current 2021 data set and see if the problem still exists in that newer data? https://www.gebco.n...

Re: maps with different projection ?

The page at your link says that the image was created with data from "the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO) produced by the British Oceanographic Data Centre" but the NASA page doesn't give any details about which GEBCO data set(s) were used, other than mentioning that the i...

Re: maps with different projection ?

Ahh, that makes more sense. Where did you get the depth values? I mean, what is the data source? Maybe there is some documentation at the site which wasn't included with the image file? This is simple bathymetry. Nothing special, just one-byte levels. I linked to it in a previous post : http://foru...

Re: maps with different projection ?

But land with other value, what does it mean ? There are few pixels, but there are some. I used a distinct color to see them, but it's not a terrain type. The only "other" values I can find in the pbm file are the four text lines of header info at the beginning of the file. 00000000 50 35...

Re: maps with different projection ?

Yes, you're right. I gave you a GeoPBM not a GeoTiff, but aside from file formatting it would be the same with an uncompressed tiff. Sure, but the GeoTiff files i've seen weren't uncompressed ;) ^ Right, if we try to indicate both elevation and land cover, one over-rides the other on at least some ...

Re: maps with different projection ?

^ You already have! I think that I may have contributed to some confusion about that. When I first started looking for a way to do a live lookup of land classification for a given spot on Earth via coordinates, I immediately found Google Earth Pro, which I posted an image of several posts back in t...

Re: maps with different projection ?

Within Freeciv, grassland to forest takes 10 turns, plains to forest takes 15 turns. Areas of mostly grassland might result in both faster city growth and also comparatively fast change to forest for higher productivity. Which would likely accelerate the development of tribes in mostly grassland ar...

Re: maps with different projection ?

11 sounds like grassland that indicated surface moisture - after rainfall, flood, or irrigation. Could convert that to just grassland, or to -irrigated- grassland, I suppose. Nile delta and northern India contain a lot of these. Swamps are out of question then, so probably grassland indeed. 14 soun...

Re: maps with different projection ?

Beautiful image! Well done! Yeah, it looks quite good :) For now it is purely generated from data, it hasn't been hand edited (aside of color picking). Resizing was just pixel skipping... The image file from Globcover2009_V2.3_Global data set has no south pole data at all. It's not in the data set,...

Re: maps with different projection ?

I've started to fiddle a bit with all the data i now have. Enjoy da 4k image : http://meynaf.free.fr/upload/tst.png It has 31 distinct colors : - 22 original ones (23 minus water) - 8 levels for water (not needed for civ but it's nice) - a special color for where bathymetric data collided with land ...
