Re: Forgetting science (random tech lost)

@case81, @sveinung, @cazfi Thx for the answers. 1. What about the scientific collapse: every X turns random civilization looses its latest technology? For example: Romans just discovered the computers, so in case it happens, they forget the computers - not the alphabet or the wheel. It might be rela...

Forgetting science (random tech lost)

"There's no need to reinvent the wheel". Oh wait... is that so? The option I propose is for slowing down global scientific advance, as well as for randomizing the game: every X turns (this factor is chosen by a player or a scenario designer), randomly chosen civilization forgets random tec...

Re: Changing leader of nation

This would be good only with the assumption, that every AI leader has already predefined factors, like aggressiveness, city improvement trends, etc. Example: you killed rather peaceful ("civilized" in Civ1 terminology) Russian leader Tsar Nicholas II. He is replaced by Stalin, which is not...

Re: [AI] Teaching AI instead of hard-coding all

As I said, the best thing we can do is to change one AI factor and see how deals with unchanged AIs, but every little change would need dozens, if not hundreds of simulations in very different conditions ("modified" AI vs. "regular" AIs). From the cognitive point of view, it's no...

Re: Ninjas and assassins

Good idea. Ninja assassins should have be somehow invisible to enemy units in some terrain tiles (mountains, swamps, jungles etc., but obviously not grasslands or plains). With only 1 movement point, hey should treat all terrains as roads (just like explorators does). They should have a lot of offen...

Re: [AI] Teaching AI instead of hard-coding all

(sorry for my English) I wouldn't count on it (human-played-statistics). Humans can make unpredictable (but yet sensible) moves. AI can't. If AI's move is classified as "unpredictable", it means it is most likely "stupid". What about real-time learning and checking data then? Th...

Unpredictable events (game randomization)

For randomization of the game, I propose to include global, unpredictable events, that affects the whole civ (or the whole world). One type of buildings stops working for some time. These events are totally random, lasts given number turns (5-10?) and are non-predictable. The ideas below are to illu...

Re: Stable release 2.5.0

On Ubuntu Software Center there is still "freeciv-client-gtk 2.4.2-1". Why not 2.5.0, isn't it the most recent one, stable, latest official release?

Re: "Love system"

When the first spaceship is launched, the game is basically over. We should do something to give other players opportunity to react and hope not to loose a game anyway. That could be done in two ways: 1. By extending the Alpha Centauri length arriving time ( "length time" value multiplier ...

Re: Impassable tiles

Oh, sorry, I didn't notice that.
Still using 2.4.2 - I was downloading the game from Ubuntu Software Center and it says it's most recent one.
