City sizes are in the ruleset now!?

Grrr. Whose idea was it to put city graphic changes into the ruleset for 2.4? What a city looks like at a particular size is not relevant to gameplay. So if an artist wants a new graphic for more city sizes (instead of just at 1, 4, 8, 12, and 16) why do they need to get people to dow...

Re: Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

Compiled 2.4 for myself just to make sure the problem persists in the latest stable release (it does) before filing a report. I've also squashed the grid a little more, increasing the foreshortening and consequently reducing the tile's overall vertical dimension. Combined with larger unit graphics t...

How to set/determine a tile's clickable region?

Quick background: I'm building a hi-res (128px-wide) hex tileset. Iso perspective for the art, but using the "non-iso" (i.e. flat sides) orientation in the tilespec. Anyone know what determines a tile's hotspot? I've got all my test graphics the right size and lined up properly. But for so...

Re: Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

If you have bug to report, please report it to bug tracker You're right, I should (and will). Though I'm never sure what to report for bugs that are more at the aesthetic end of things, since it's always debatable whether there's a problem in the first place, and the solution tends to be a matter o...

Re: Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

Yeah, it looks like I'll just have to suck it up, move forward with things, and just hope that someday fixing the image positioning and GUI padding wanders to the top of the devs' priority list. I mean, surely the fact that unit and city images don't start anywhere near the tile they occupy counts a...

Re: Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

I think my little closing rant might have dropped the tone of this thread. Sorry for that. It was late and I just had a meatspace argument with another open source fan about a similar topic. Not that that excuses me. As for the wiki/documentation, I'm actually not sure what the update's content shou...

Re: Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

If it is a non-isometric tileset then why would you want to spread anything out of the tule bounds? Well, because even though the game distinguishes them as iso and non-iso, for hex tiles it's also a matter of which way the hexagon sits. I don't specifically want a non-isometric view, I want the he...

Re: Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

Thanks for the input. First, I realize I didn't post a map screen, which might clarify some things, so here's what I've got so far. No fancy graphics until I've got the metrics figured out. But obviously things tile pretty nicely and my connectables are connecting properly. Some things need a little...

Hex tileset needs very large y offsets, problems ensue

So I'm making a new tileset. 128px for the first version (then I'll see about scaling it down to 96, 64, and 32). But I'm having issues with the y offsets (i.e. for unit and shield gfx), specifically that they need to be far larger than I'd expect them to be. For my 128px version it's around 160px, ...
