It's a surprise to me. Can't think of many other causes than ones already mentioned.
What version of Freeciv, and what ruleset?

Some thoughts: The original selection of the Core nation group is basically inherited from the original Civ games, so inherits their biases. See gna patch #3432 for rationale. (It's not much of an excuse, but it's an excuse.) Changing the Core set is a bit fraught (noted in patch #3448 ). We can bas...
There is no tinting in the graphics engine currently. I have been idly musing about adding some as a cheap way to get placeholder "programmer graphics" for new units to playtest them, but I've not done anything about it. There is already "background colour", but it gives player c...
Be warned though; if there aren't any special orders given through the city overview (as JTN explained), your autosettlers might do do something that's not exactly what you have in mind. Yes, that's true; once you've unleashed autosettlers, you had better like their decisions. (I hope you like mine...

Could be that units.ruleset contains UTF-8 characters, whereas techs.ruleset and government.ruleset contain only ASCII. My bet is on this in most 2.6 units.ruleset files: [unit_diplomat] name = _("Diplomat") ; ... veteran_names = ; /* TRANS: diplomatic rank. */ _("?diplomatic_rank:att...

I've been investigating this recently, and it's not that they don't want to clean up pollution -- they do -- but they are...

GriffonSpade, would you consider adding Wahazar's more-visible pollution sprite, or something like it, to Hexemplio? I'm happy to make the change myself, but wanted to give you chance to think about it.

From the help, it seems it uses as input the output of a server command that is no more. Looks like the "rulesout" command it relied on was removed from 1.14. However, the next script on the Utilities page , "Rulesout perl script" , looks like it was intended to replace the miss...

The construction vodot refers to is only in the current beta/RC versions, 2.6+. In the stable release, 2.5.x, Farmland existence and behaviour is more hardcoded. It is a tech flag that controls when it is available, and you can change which tech(s) have that flag. For instance, from 2.5 data/classic...
