Is Spawning Intentional or Map-Driven?
Hi all, I’ve been playing Freeciv for a while and noticed something interesting: land barbarians feel extremely rare compared to naval ones. Most of the time, I only see barbarian ships or coastal raids, while inland spawns almost never appear wacky flip . I was wondering how this is actually handle...

Re: How does land barbarians work?
From what I remember, barbarian spawning in Freeciv is handled by the server-side generator logic, which checks for empty tiles and distance from players. It would be interesting to know if sea tiles are actually treated as “more valid” spawn zones in practice.

Re: Game strategies: peaceful vs. aggressive and getting (un)lucky with your neighbours
What if the issue isn’t luck, but lack of information? Maybe the game needs better scouting or intel mechanics so players can “read” their neighbors earlier. That way, decisions feel less like gambling and more like strategy.

New Player Here - Any Fun Strategies to Try First?
Hi everyone, I’ve just started playing Freeciv and I’m really enjoying the depth so far, but it also feels a bit overwhelming at times. There seem to be so many different ways to approach the game: expansion, diplomacy, military, tech rush, etc. For those of you with more experience, what are some f...

Help Needed: Getting the Ampercians Tileset for the Ancients Mod
Hello! I’m trying to run the Ancients mod and I’ve run into an issue with missing or incompatible tileset files, specifically the Ampercians tileset Football Bros IO . I have checked the usual resources but haven’t been able to find a clear download or installation guide that works with the current ...

Desync when rejoining long multiplayer game
Hi everyone, I’ve been playing a long Freeciv multiplayer match (around 6+ hours) with friends, and we noticed something strange when a player disconnects and then rejoins. After reconnecting, their game seems slightly out of sync — for example, unit positions or city production don’t fully match wh...

Re: "Build_Building" city action
Adding a subtarget_reqs={...} field sounds like a good way to handle city actions like changing production. Infinite Craft Game The key will be making sure it doesn’t break existing enabler logic - maybe separating pre-checks from subtarget checks could keep things compatible while adding flexibility.

How to Fix Map Rendering Glitches in Freeciv 3.3 on High-Resolution Monitors?
Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to a 4K monitor and noticed that Freeciv 3.3 sometimes displays strange map glitches—tiles overlapping, terrain not aligning properly, and some units appearing in the wrong positions. I’ve tried adjusting the resolution and changing graphic settings in-game, but the ...

Re: Possible release on GOG ?
That’s a cool idea! Freeciv on GOG could help it reach more players,Pokerogue but since it’s a community-driven open source project, it would mostly depend on whether someone is willing to handle the packaging and coordination with GOG.
