Re: An idea for a good ruleset

If I could, then I would have downloaded Freeciv on this phone already. But this is Windows Phone, and since when exactly did people start to care about Windows PHONE? Anyways, thank you so much! Though I must await my new Android phone to test changes... Oh well, at least I now have something new t...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Why the default ruleset? Simple, because I want a blank slate to build up from.

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

You know what, I'll do it now.
Tell me of a place where I can download all the files of the default ruleset.

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Yeah, there is a problem with that. I used to play Freeciv on my Android device. Granted, it was rooted, so the required files would probably have been available to me. However, a week or so ago, that wonderful device went kaput. Getting a new Android phone will take a month at the very least. Till ...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

I have seen the Simulation ruleset thread just now. Suffice it to say, I will spend a long time studying the ruleset and, once I get around to buying a non-Windows Mobile device, I will play with it as well. I remember having read in a thread somewhere in this forum about how the fact that it is rel...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Again, I agree that the number of meaningful combinations of the three values is stiflingly limited. But I think you miss the point of me adding Boreal Forest. Also, Wetland Forest and Jungle are two different terrains. To further explain, we have: Point five: Terrain Alterations (Part 1) First off,...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Oh my, this is going to be one long post... Firstly, thank you for your opinions. Lachu, I will think about the the idea with Oil. I do not keep up with the latest Civilization games, for one reason - Freeciv. While you are right that I got the idea from somewhere else, I didn't get it from plans fo...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Thanks for replying. I see your point - I enjoy chess myself, but in my mind, chess was always an abstraction of war. Freeciv, on the other hand, was, to me, a representation of reality. Not a perfect mirror, by any means, but yet a representation. It's why I took a liking to it in the first place. ...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Point four: Manmade terrain alteration (Part 2) Now our concern is with Canals. Imagine a narrow 2-tile isthmus that you want ships to be able to get across. In most rulesets, you would have to convert at least one tile to Ocean, which is, frankly, ridiculous. Hence, Canals. 1. Small Canals - Requir...

Re: An idea for a good ruleset

Point three: Manmade terrain alteration (Part 1) Here our concern is with irrigation, mining and roads. Irrigation and Farmland - exactly the same Mining, Oil Wells, Lumber and Offshore Platforms - Mines can be built on Hills, Mountains, Tundras and Deserts. Adds +3 Production to Hills and Mountains...
