OK I got it. Set it to no compression. Everything works fine. Thanks for all your help!

I am having trouble finding server setting -> internal -> savegame compression algorithm. I am on windows 10/ freeciv gtk 2.5.6/ 64 bit.

Also, this isn't the first time. I can load auto saves. I have yet to be able to load a manual save. I have tried the "save game" and "save game as" functions.

I like to play long games on big maps. Is there a way speed up the "between turn"? I was thinking, there used to be a function to turn off "show AI movement" just for this issue. Is this a feature? Help finding it?

Sometimes I want to see more of the map at one time. Maybe I am missing how to zoom in/out in gtk2.5.6? (I searched the manual) It is easy enough in freeciv-web. I like to play longer more involved games and freeciv-web is just too slow later in the game.
