Re: [blog] Porting Freeciv to the Web

Hi Lachu! Do you use emterpreter? I use WASM, since it appears to be the fastest option on Firefox and performance is still not as good as I'd like. (Don't misunderstand me: it's not slow. Just not fast enough.) I have ported 7kaa to the web. 7kaa uses many nested loops, so porting was a real proble...

Compiling and running on the Web

Freeciv is written in C, which is a programming language suited for native apps. On the Web, however, only one language is allowed: Javascript. Before you even think about running a program in a browser, you need to translate it to Javascript. Doing this by hand for the roughly 50,000 lines of code ...

Bringing Freeciv to the Web -- again

Since the beginning, Freeciv was written as a network game. This means that it is really made of two programs who talk to each other: the client and the server. The client is the user-facing part of the game that displays the map and allow you to give orders. The server, on the other hand, is mostly...

[blog] Porting Freeciv to the Web

Welcome!

I use this thread to post "blog" entries about work (mostly mine) done towards porting the SDL client to the Web.

Happy reading!

Re: Blue/Purple Screen on New Android

I found this SDL bug (several years old \o/): https://bugzilla.libsdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2291 This suggests that using a wrong pixel format may cause similar behavior. This app displays a list of supported pixel formats. Maybe the software renderer would not have this problem? In graphics.pyx : def...

Re: Blue/Purple Screen on New Android

It looks like an issue with color management. Maybe the wrong color space is somehow selected at startup? I'd try to reproduce with some basic SDL demos to rule out an upstream issue first.

Re: [2.6] Augmented ruleset modpack

I tried it against the AI and research was quite slow. Even though I was playing like crap, I could take over one of the AIs with horses. Other AIs didn't seem to develop anything beyond phalanxes (except barbarians who had galleons and legions). The variety of new units is nice. I still need some t...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

@Hans, it would be good if you could include a license file (has to be GPL version 2 or later because it's a derivative work of original trident) That sounds like a great idea. How do I do that? You download this file (for GPL 2.0), rename it to LICENSE or COPYING and add it to your .zip folder. Th...

Re: RoundSquare tileset

Version 0.42 can be installed by pasting http://student.ulb.ac.be/~lmoureau/freeciv/RoundSquare-0.42.modpack in the URL field of the modpack installer and clicking Install. @Hans, it would be good if you could include a license file (has to be GPL version 2 or later because it's a derivative work of...
